PETROCHEMICAL Industry
Petroleum refineries and petrochemical plants use and produce a variety of combustible and toxic gases in the production process. CONSTRUCTION Industry
In the Construction Industry where people are working in confined space, there is a high possibility of encountering Oxygen Deficiency and Toxic Gases from decomposing organic matter. For example this can be found in underground sites where tunnels are being constructed. To prevent accidents or disasters, Riken personal gas detectors are worn by people working in confined spaces. MINING/ GAS
Numerous gases are associated with mining and are generally divided into combustible, toxic and asphyxiant types. Some of the more common gases encountered are methane, carbon dioxide (CO2), carbon monoxide (CO), oxides of nitrogen (NO, NO2), hydrogen sulphide (H2S) and sulphur dioxide(SO2). In the Telecommunication and NBN servicing industry, maintenance by technicians is required. Nearly all are required to carry 4 gas portable gas monitors due to pits where gas may be present. SHIP Safety and Maintanance
Ships carrying crude oil, LNG, LPG…etc have a risk of gas leakage from cargo tanks during transportation. Riken detection technology enables gas leaks to be detected at an early stage, preventing possible explosion and pollution at sea. In addition, Riken portable gas detectors are used for monitoring the ship’s cargo tanks during inerting, the environment for combustible and toxic gases, as well as oxygen deficiency in Confined Spaces. The Beacon 410/800 alongside combustible sensors and SD-1 are used in the areas for fixed monitoring while the GX-3R, GX-3R Pro, SC-8000, GX-2012 , GX-6000 or the EAGLE 2 are used for portable monitoring.
CONTAINER FUMIGATION
Fumigated and ventilated shipping containers can contain high levels of methyl bromide (MeBr), making them dangerous for workers. Our various portable gas monitors like the SP-220 and the FI-21 are the more common monitors used to measure Methyl Bromide.
FIREFIGHTERS
Various kinds of danger exist, side-by-side, at fire or disaster sites, such as explosion from combustible gas, carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning by incomplete combustion, hydrogen sulfide (H2S) poisoning and oxygen deficiency. Riken portable gas detectors that detect up to 6 gases in one instrument are used to detect these gases. The GX-6000, EAGLE 2 are used to check for the various hazardous gases they may encounter.
RESEARCH LABS and UNIVERSITIES

FOOD MANUFACTURING
Nitrogen (N2) and carbon dioxide (CO2) gases are used in the packaging process of food products to prevent oxidation. These gases are known as asphyxiating gases, and Riken oxygen detectors are used to monitor any decrease in Oxygen levels in the production area. In the brewing industry Riken CO2 analyzers are used to monitor the purity of the CO2, which contributes towards the quality control of beer and carbonated drinks. COUNCIL POOLS Safety
Where the Councils have public pools they also have pump rooms to maintain the water. Various chemicals are used to maintain that water. Once the chemicals are mixed with the water they release a hazardous gas. We install and maintain gas monitors in the pump rooms to monitor CL2 gas to make it safe for employees to enter those rooms and conduct their work. The GD-70 Intelligent CL2 monitor is most commonly used in this application.
TUNNELS and CAR PARKS
All tunnels and most underground car parks require the monitoring of Carbon Monoxide so as to indicate when a hazardous level is reached and ventilation is then activated. We install and maintain these fixed CO monitors with various types of our sensors. The GX-3R, GX-3R PRO, GX-2012, GX-6000, VCOM, VIPA are suitable for portable applications where in fixed monitoring our fixed CO sensor range is used.
AIRCRAFT MAINTANANCE
Aviation fuels consist of blends of over two thousand chemicals, primarily hydrocarbons (paraffins, olefins, naphthenes, and aromatics), additives such as antioxidants and metal deactivators, biocides, static reducers, icing inhibitors, corrosion inhibitors, and impurities, which are highly explosive, and Hydrazine (N2H4), which is highly toxic to humans. These gases need to be monitored to ensure safety as well as regular checks conducted on fuel tanks to ensure there are no leaks. Riken gas detectors are used to monitor these gases. The GX-6000 Benzine, EAGLE 2 are used in this industry for monitoring.
